I am now living life in 2D.
I wake up, read a variety of articles, news and books on my iPad. In rainy California winter, I do my morning run on a treadmill with an iFit screen. I head to my home office to get on Zoom, Teams, or Google Meetings for 8 hours or more a day of 2D work. I end the day reading or watching a movie on a screen. Over the weekend, I had a Zoom beer(s) with a friend in Massachusetts. Yesterday, a Zoom with an east coast best friend who I have not had a 3D visit with in 18 months or so.
I move from screen to screen.
2D work. 2D play. 2D friends.
It has been a year or so of this.
Maybe it is my introvert wiring, but it is now oh-so-comfortable.
In fact, it seems all so much easier. Maybe it is the structure and scheduling.
No cocktail parties I am ghosting out of.
No worries about finding a parking spot anywhere.
No figuring out how to politely end long winded chatter. (Gotta go, I have another Zoom at 9!)
The time I am saving. The productivity I am gaining. The more people I am actually interfacing with.
The vaccination will come and life will return to normal.
Will many of us stay 2D?
Maybe we can have a chat about this over dinner.
On FaceTime.
Stay Steadfast Friends!
