Remember our Veterans!
Wednesday, November 11th, is Veteran's Day.
The day had its origins as Armistice Day, a day established in 1947 to commemorate World War II. In 1954, President Eisenhower widened the scope of recognition and signed a bill declaring November 11th a day to celebrate all veterans.
Today, there are over 17,000,000 military veterans in the United States.
325K of them are from the WW2 era.
2.2M are Korean War vets.
610K are Vietnam War vintage.
650K are vets from the two gulf wars.
The rest are folks like me.
People who took the oath to defend our Constitution and America during peacetime. Though these veterans, thankfully, did not have to serve in times of conflict, they were ready to make the ultimate sacrifice so that the rest of us can live free under the banner of liberty.
Seventeen million four hundred thousand people probably don't need or expect our thanks on Wednesday. Most are humble and quiet about their service.
But let's do it anyway.
Our freedom has been paid for by a veteran's sacrifice.
