I don’t know this to be true, but if pride were something we could statistically measure, my hunch is that we hit peak American pride in 1945.
We believed in ourselves.
We believed in our institutions.
We believed in a better tomorrow.
We dressed up for important occasions.
We worked hard to have decent things and took great care of them.
We taught respect for each other as a matter of communal pride.
We cared about our towns, our states, and our country.

Walk through an airport.
Visit a big city.
Drive around most neighborhoods.
Scroll through social media.
See how people show up at work, at weddings, and at shopping centers.
Lack of pride in dress, manners, material things, and how we treat each other.
Deion Sanders once said, “Look good, feel good. Feel good, play good.”
You, looking good.
Your possessions, looking good.
Your family, looking good.
Taking care to look good, the doorway to Living Good!
